Domaine Koquelicot Nomad is the signature red wine from Domaine Koquelicot from the Istrian peninsula. It is made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the indigenous Teran grape. Aged for two years in French oak, the Nomad has aromas of blackcurrant and plum. On the palate are flavors of blackcurrant, dark cherries and subtle spices. A full-bodied blend inspired by the elegance of Burgundy.

  • Meat risotto
  • Roasted meat

The name Domaine Koquelicot would suggest this is a French winery. However, this is not the case here. It is an interesting story. Olivier Ertzbischoff, Burgandy wine lover and Jacqueline Marovac born from Rijeka decided to start producing wine at their home in Gračišće, Istria. Mr. Ertzbischoff used his bonds of friendships with French winemakers and enologists and the results are amazing: stylish, different wines, very successfully follow the style of Burgundian white wines in combination with Istrian terroir. The assortment is as expected: Chardonnay, Malvasia Istriana, and the combination of these varieties. The name of the winery is a specific, adapted version of the French word that means poppy.

On the west coast of Istria, grapes are grown on “terra rossa”, red soil. While Santa Lucija is “breathing” the white Istrian soil, the mother of extraordinary wines and above all the unique Buje Malvazija. Santa Lucia is the patron saint of family’s wine portfolio. From this “white” soil comes Franković winery wine selection. It has always been known that the Malvazija from Buje surroundings is distinguished by exceptional quality. But with Franković distinctive Malvazija, Teran, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Cabernet-Sauvignon are also born in the same Santa Lucia locality.

Nero Montepulciano D ‘Abruzzo is a wine with deep ruby color, intensely fruity with notes of cherry and forest fruits on the nose. Fresh and elegant in the mouth, with medium body and a nice finish. The harmonious gentle tannins and balanced acids make this wine very drinkable with great aging potential. Minerals and limestone-rich Istrian soil give Montepulciano from Abruzzo a different dimension and make it possible to enjoy this wine in two variations at the same time. The first one is to enjoy the wine right now because it is fresh, fruity and very tasty even on hot summer days. Other one reveals immediately to a wine lover that if he has enough patience, Nero can achieve its full maturity and be a very pleasant surprise.

The story of the Monte Rosso estate began about ten years ago on an old neglected estate located in Istria, near Savudrija. The estate was named Crveni Vrh, and thus the name of the winery. Some time ago, the estate was overgrown with weeds and underbrush. However, today the estate seems completely different. On 65 hectares of the estate, there are vineyards of Malvasia and Montepulciano, plantations of different varieties of olives, 2000 cherry trees, 600 figs and 650 almonds. In the summer of 2016 winery doors were opened to visitors. And everyone who wanted to relax and enjoy the nature with a glass of wine and a loaf of bread drenched in widely known Istrian olive oil was welcome.
