Plančić Darnekuša 2017

Brothers Plančić Winery is located on the sunniest island in Croatia, Island Hvar. The winery was established in 1919. And since then it is run by family Plančić. They are using indigenous cultivars characteristic for the island Hvar. White varieties: Bogdanuša and Parč. And red: Plavac Mali and Darnekuša. Typical for the Plančić winery is that they process every vineyard by hand and that every bottle has a unique number. You can find the information on how much of that vintage was produced, and which bottle do you own. Darnekuša is a rare Croatian variety only grown on the island of Hvar. It is nearly extinct with only 1.5 hectares of vineyards left on the island. It is unique because it grows only on the highest positions of Hvar island, 580 m above the sea level. It is probably the highest vineyard in Croatia.

Wine notes

Winery Braća Plančić Winery
Country Croatia
Region Dalmatia
Variety Darnekuša
Category Wines
Bottle size 0.75 L
Alcohol 13.5 %
Production 2.500
  • Carob
  • Cherry
  • Fig
  • Wild strawberries

The name Dernekuša is derived from a Turkish word for that state just before a wild party becomes an orgy, but weirdly the variety very rarely attains more than 12% alcohol. Unlike Plavac Mali, the color of this wine characterizes the “meat” ruby color. Wine has unique aromas and surprisingly fresh taste. Before bottling, wine ages in oak barrels and partially in inox tanks minimum of 12.

  • Casserol
  • Hamburger
  • Tuna
  • Veal
